Together we made a difference
For many years, as I progressed through my journey in dance and fitness, I knew in my heart that one day I would teach Yoga as well. I kept putting off the decision to take a teacher training course, mainly because I wanted to make sure that I learned from the best, so I could offer the best.
Inspiration comes to us in many ways over our lifetime; mine came from my dear friend, Penny Grigg. She had been telling me for years that I had a natural healing and nurturing way, a gift so to speak and urged me to finally just become a Yoga teacher.
Sadly Penny passed away on March 5th 2012 after 3 years of cancer and all its challenges. The last time I saw her was in Palliative Care in the week before she died. We both knew it was our last time seeing each other. As I bent over to hug and kiss her, I noticed a beautiful 1988 brochure from the Omega Center on her pillow. Penny had asked her father to pick it up from her house because she knew I was visiting. She looked me in the eyes and made me promise to finally take the steps towards becoming a Yoga teacher. Tearfully I gave her my word.
A requirement of the 500 hr Naada Yoga teacher training I followed was to give 15 hours of Community based Yoga classes. This was the birth of the 1st annual Community Fundraiser for the Vaudreuil-Soulanges Palliative Care Residence in Hudson, Quebec , where I reside and teach. In 2015 we raised 1350$, in 2016 we raised 1500$ and 2017 we raised 1885$.
I am honoured and humbled by everyone’s support and generosity. Thank-you!
Together we made a difference!
